POLLOCK POST ARTICLE APRIL 2007 'In 2005, ninety frist year architecture students from Glasgow's Mackintosh School of Architecture came to visit The Village Storytelling Centre in Pollok. They came to find out the sort of needs that a storytelling centre might have, and were set the task of designing a storytelling pavilion to be situated either in Ross Hall Park, or beside Crookston Castle. This was their first year project, and I was invited to see some of the students' presentations at the end of year assessment in June 2006. I was very impressed by the imaginative and beautiful plans that they had come up with, and asked if we could exhibit some of the students' work at The Village. With the Friends of Crookston Castle and Grounds group underway, the Committee decided to take it upon themselves to organise the exhibition, featuring three of the pavilions designed to be built beside Crookston Castle. They thought that it would be an inspiring way to encourage local people to think about exactly what sort of visitor centre they would like to have for Crookston Castle. On March 8th the exhibition went ahead, complete with animated walk-throughs of the pavilions, plans and models. The students, Max Klaentschi, Micheal Fedak and Joel Morgan amazed us with their skilful and exciting ideas. A great way to help us on our way to realizing the dream of Crookston Castle's own visitor centre. Although we do not have the animated walk-throughs, you can still see the plans and models as we will be looking after these at The Village until the middle of April.' |
